It’s hard to tell you exactly why this indie’s story is so utterly amazing without ruining it entirely, but that’s part of its charm. Set aside a Sunday afternoon and play it through in one sitting, and, trust us, you won’t regret it. What we can tell you is that it’s a collection of strange stories about what happened to members of one family. Each one is told using a different gameplay style, and the way they play out is as inventive as the stories themselves. Combine its bewitching score with a mysterious world that’s begging to be explored and an emotionally tortured hero who clearly hates every action players force him into, and you have a narrative masterpiece.
But its greatness didn’t hinge on its platform, and its arrival on PC in early 2022 opened it up to a whole new audience – one that should absolutely take the opportunity to play it if they haven’t before. While the sequel, Doom Eternal, arguably improved on the combat by making it even more technical, for us nothing beats the relative purity and simplicity of the satisfying slug-fests of Doom. And while it certainly lives up to the genre’s standards for density, CK3 also manages to be as accessible as they’ve ever been, with a robust, nested tooltip system that helps allow even strategy newcomers enjoy its many layers. While historical grand strategy games are perhaps best known for maddeningly complex systems so dense they’re nearly impenetrable, they’re also renowned for the human stories that emerge when great figures collide with dynamic results. Crusader Kings 3 gives you many ways to tell those stories, be it overwhelming military might, the diplomacy of a well-placed betrothal, or ending your enemies with a cloak-and-dagger plot. With only 25 slots to fill, there are tons of amazing recent PC games that didn’t float to the top – but that doesn’t mean we don’t think they’re awesome, too!

And then, in a flash of metal and a blur of blue magic, your blade is in your target’s neck, and you’re vanishing into the night. Hades 2 is a masterclass in how to make a sequel that absolutely slaps, even in early access. The DLC has always been on the pricier side, but always adds something new to the life of your Sims, such as magic spells, a tropical island world, or a themed furniture set for your grumpy teenager’s bedroom. We never tire of the way The Sims 4 can generate dynamic storylines – family dramas, love triangles or personal struggles, and those tales keep us coming back, year after year, expansion after expansion.

When the story reaches its satisfying climax, you feel like you’ve gone through a life-changing ordeal with your best friends. When the game ultimately ends, it’s hard not to shed tears for all you’re saying goodbye to. Technology may change, but people always have the same capacity for love, greed, devotion, hate, and honor, no matter the era. And the storytellers knew when to create quiet moments to let the players get close enough to see some characters in a whole new light.
But perhaps it’s for the best, because if this series’ history is any indication we’ll soon need the space for GTA 6, will be released for consoles in 2025 – fingers crossed, that means 2026 for PC rather than 2027! It will feature a return to Vice City and star the series’ first female playable character in a Bonnie & Clyde-inspired adventure. League of Legends developer Riot Games has applied its vibrant and exciting character design ethos towards this punishingly precise first-person shooter. The result is a tightly tactical team-based game with a miniscule time to kill, a defined art-style, and heroes with a whole lot of character. The best online games offer up a variety of different experiences you can enjoy with or against other players. From team-based shooters to deduction games and plenty of PvP action, there’s not shortage of online adventures to be had if you’re looking for something to play next.
